'Instead of apologizing…': Delhi LG's veiled jibe at AAP over Yamuna's toxic foam | Latest News India

Air pollution in Delhi: The national capital struggles with air pollution during the Christmas season.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday shared pictures of toxic foam in Yamuna on X, making his second consecutive veiled mockery of the Atishi-led Aam Aadmi Party government in the capital.

“These pictures of Yamuna ji are from this morning. Who is responsible? Truth has a very bad habit, it cannot be suppressed. Instead of spreading accusations, accusations and excuses in the media/social media, it would be better to provide relief from this deteriorating situation to the people of Delhi and especially Chhath worshipers and fasters,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

“I expect concrete steps towards redress,” Delhi LG wrote on X.

On Monday, the Lieutenant Governor had also shared pictures of Yamuna and said, “This is the state of Yamuna, the pain of the people of Delhi; I can't see it. Who is responsible for such an emergency? Who had claimed to purify the city of Yamuna and announced to take bath in it?”

The Aam Aadmi Party had claimed that the images of foam on the Yamuna were from 2015 and alleged that the BJP was “resorting to desperate tactics” by sharing old images.

BJP vs AAP on Yamuna pollution

The political war of words between the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP continues as the capital grapples with water and air pollution.

On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi blamed the burning of 'parali' (rice stubble), diesel buses and brick kilns in BJP-ruled Haryana for Delhi's poor air quality.

“Anand Vihar, which lies on the Delhi-UP border, remains a hotspot with the highest AQI levels. Many buses from outside Delhi flock to this area and the Kaushambi bus depot is also located nearby. While Delhi operates CNG and electric buses, Kaushambi bus depot gets diesel buses. We plan to work with the UP government to implement pollution control measures there too,” Atishi said at a press conference.

Reacting to Atishi's allegations, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said, “I think the AAP government in Delhi has a habit of lying and blaming others for its own mistakes.”

“The Delhi government usually sees deficiencies in everyone except itself. The BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) of water supplied from Haryana to Delhi is around 2-3 mg per liter. The BOD of water supplied to Delhi through the CLC canal is almost zero. But the Delhi government should say who is responsible for the 28 drains of dirty water flowing from Delhi to Okhla in Yamuna,” ANI quoted Saini as saying.
