Kenny “The Jet” Smith would like to become a free agent.

The “Inside the NBA” personality could be entering his final year at TNT – where he has worked for more than two decades – if the network's parent company, Warner Brothers Discovery, loses its bid for the NBA's media rights with the next deal, which begins in 2025 season -26.

Many would feel uneasy about the unknown, but not Smith.

The former two-time NBA champion sits back and enjoys being courted for his on-air skills.

“Well, I feel great at the start of the season. “I feel like the pretty girl at the prom that everyone might want to take you to prom,” Smith told The Post on Wednesday while discussing FanDuel's new promotion, which includes a League Pass offer ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season included. “I'm talking about the other networks (laughs) or staying with the same network (TNT) and doing a hybrid show – for us, a hybrid show.

“It's an interesting time for me to be a free agent. I was joking (before), but I think I will now. At some point I'm going to take over from LeBron (James) and say, “I'm going to bring my talents to the table – and I'm going to have all the kids around me who like him… I think in 30 days I'll find myself in a boys and girls club somewhere.” and make my announcement.”

Smith was referring to when James announced on a television show called “The Decision” on ESPN that he would be taking his “talents” from the Cavaliers to the Heat for the 2010 NBA season.

“But it’s a lot of fun. If it's basketball, it's me. It's great to be wanted by so many people, including TNT,” said Smith, 59. “Like I said, I'm trying to create something that might live longer, or other networks. But it's basketball, that's me. That's what I do. I've been doing this for several decades. I put myself in a position, and I think our show has put itself in a position where we can all do something together and we can all do something individually, or we can all do it together.

“I think of us as 'Seinfeld,' a group of guys… but we're also all great individually. It’s a lot of fun.”

Smith, along with his “Inside the NBA” co-hosts Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Ernie Johnson, have been at the center of speculation about the future of the Emmy Award-winning show after four decades on TNT.

The NBA and TNT's current broadcast agreements run through the 2025-26 season, including the entire 2025 Western Conference Finals.

In July, the NBA secured 11-year deals to broadcast games on Amazon Prime Video and NBC, as well as broadcast games on Disney platforms ESPN and ABC.

At the time, TNT said it matched Amazon's offer “as we have a contractual right to do so and do not believe the NBA can refuse an offer.”

“We believe they have grossly misinterpreted our contractual rights relating to the 2025-26 season and beyond, and we will take appropriate action,” TNT said in its statement. “However, we look forward to another great NBA season on TNT and Max, including our legendary Inside the NBA.”

The NBA responded in a statement that “Warner Bros. Discovery's recent offer did not meet the terms of Amazon Prime Video's offer and we have therefore entered into a long-term agreement with Amazon.”

This deal is an 11-year, $1.8 billion contract.

In August, the NBA asked the New York Supreme Court to dismiss a lawsuit filed the previous month by Warner Bros. Discovery that accused the NBA of breach of contract for rejecting the WBD deal to accept Amazon Prime Videos Offer.

In September, both sides agreed to an “expedited resolution” of the case, with a trial scheduled to take place no later than April 2025 unless the lawsuit against the NBA is summarily dismissed.

There were also rumors that the “Inside the NBA” crew would recreate the famous studio show on another network.

However, Barkley scrapped that idea over the summer, saying he included an exit option in his contract earlier this year

Johnson reportedly intends to remain with TNT.

O'Neal, who became president of Reebok Basketball in October 2023, has not yet revealed his future plans. After retiring from the NBA in 2011, he moved to TNT.

The Inside the NBA team returns to the airwaves to specifically cover the NBA's opening night when the Celtics host the Knicks on October 22nd.

TNT will record a live show at City Hall Plaza with special appearances from Shaboozey and Benson Boone.
