Tom Holland stars in Christopher Nolan's new film

Tom Holland is in talks to join the cast of Christopher Nolan's next film.

If the deal goes through, the Spider-Man actor would star alongside Matt Damon in the otherwise top-secret film. Nolan is the writer and director of the film, which will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026 by Universal Pictures.

Universal had no comment on Holland's casting.

Filming for the upcoming feature, which has no title, is expected to begin in early 2025, although Holland's casting could prove a challenge to the production schedule. The actor, best known for his role as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be busy and changing like Hollywood over the next year with Spider-Man 4 and possibly the next Avengers sequel reporter noted for the first time. In between appearances as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Holland appeared alongside Francesca Amewudah-Rivers in the West End adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.

This project reunites Nolan with the studio that backed his hugely successful historical drama Oppenheimer, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture (and six other awards) and grossed $975 million at the worldwide box office. The three-hour, R-rated film marked Nolan's first time working with Universal, marking the director's departure from a nearly two-decade-long creative partnership with Warner Bros., the company that has backed many of his biggest blockbusters, including ” The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Dunkirk. Nolan reportedly went straight to Universal for his Oppenheimer follow-up instead of shopping the film in town.

“Oppenheimer” employs a slew of Hollywood talent, including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek and Josh Hartnett, among others. So it's safe to assume that a bevy of A-listers could soon be joining Damon and Holland in this upcoming feature.
