Vinicius and Courtois both warn: against Barcelona the entire 90 minutes must be like the second half

Real Madrid's dramatic 5-2 win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening was another chapter in the history of Champions League comebacks. Despite being 2-0 down at halftime, the team rallied in the second half, inspired by a hat-trick from Vinicius Jr. and crucial saves from Thibaut Courtois. The two key figures spoke to the media after the game and discussed their role in the comeback and what it means for the team's future.

Vinicius Jr., who led the attack, emphasized the team's belief and calm approach even when they were two goals down at halftime.

“We believe in ourselves, we know that anything can happen at home with our fans,” said Vinicius. “We arrived in the dressing rooms at half-time very calmly, listened to the manager and said one thing: if we score the first goal we will come back.” Thanks to the fans, but we have to improve and play like that from the start, Otherwise the trainer won’t be able to keep up.”

The Brazilian star also praised Carlo Ancelotti's tactical adjustments, which were instrumental in changing the dynamic of the game in the second half.

“The coach always finds a way to make the games easier for us,” said the Brazilian. “We changed the formation and also the dynamics in the second half. It's our competition and we want to win it again.

“Ancelotti tells me that I can always do more, I am 24 years old and I want to stay here forever and give a lot for this team that has given me everything.”

While Vinicius did the attacking heroics, it was Thibaut Courtois who kept Madrid in the game at the most dangerous moments. The Belgian goalkeeper made several crucial saves, preventing Dortmund from extending their lead in both halves, which would have made a comeback much more difficult.

“They created too much danger for us, they scored against us and we talked at half-time about what we need to improve,” Courtois said. “We reacted and knew that if we scored the first goal we could win. In the second half we applied more pressure from man to man and with an intensity worthy of a Champions League game. That’s the difference.”

Courtois pointed to a special moment when Dortmund were close to scoring their third goal, but his reflex save from Julian Brandt's shot kept Madrid alive.

“It was too easy, they played passes to us close to the penalty area, Brandt can control and shoot. Of course I saved well, but if the ball goes into the top corner you are 3-0 down at half time. It won't always work and we have to start Saturday against Barca like we did today.”
