DURAN scores again as Villa take their third point from three in the Champions League with victory over Bologna

Aston Villa continued their perfect start to the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Bologna thanks to goals from returning captain John McGinn and Colombian sensation Jhon Duran. The win moves Villa to the top of the Champions League stage, making them the only team who currently have the maximum points from three games.

Despite clever play and regular pressure from the hosts, the first half ended goalless. Duran, McGinn and Morgan Rodgers all had good chances but were met by Lukasz Skorupski in one half, leaving the Italian team much happier at the break.

Villa broke the deadlock early in the second half when McGinn fired a dangerous free-kick from outside the box which evaded all players and found its way into the net. Just moments later, the hosts doubled their lead when Duran added another Champions League goal to his name, converting a cross from Rodgers with a deft forward finish.

Aston Villa next face Club Brugge in the Champions League with the comfort of knowing they have already secured nine points, while Bologna host Monaco who have just one point and no goals after three games.
