A 93-win season wasn't enough for the Milwaukee Brewers to keep their coaching staff intact.

The team announced an overhaul of its offensive brain trust on Monday. Hitting coach Ozzie Timmons is no longer there, Al LeBoeuf is named head hitting coach and Eric Theisen becomes hitting coach.

Connor Dawson, who served as hitting coach with Timmons, will also remain with the team and work with LeBoeuf and Theisen.

Timmons had just completed his third season with the organization after previously serving as first base and assistant hitting coach for the Tampa Bay Rays.

LeBoeuf, 64, will be 16Th season in the Brewers organization and had spent the past six seasons as a hitting coach at the Class AAA level (2021-2024 in Nashville, 2019-2021 in San Antonio).

He has also overcome enormous personal challenges to stay in the game.

In 2012, LeBoeuf was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder caused by a cancer site on his right hip. He underwent successful treatment and, after working his way back up in the minor leagues, returned to his former job as a Class AAA hitting coach.

Theisen, 39, begins his fifth season with the organization and his third as assistant hitting coordinator. He was the hitting coach alongside LeBoeuf in Nashville in 2024 and was also the hitting coach at Class A Carolina in 2021.

Neither has major league coaching experience, but both have worked extensively with Milwaukee's core of young hitters such as Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick as those players advanced through the minor league system.

“In his 15 seasons with the organization, Al has played a key role in the development of many of the young hitters seen on the major league roster today,” general manager Matt Arnold said in a statement released by the team. “His familiarity and relationships with all of these players will be a great resource for us. Al has had a long journey and we are very happy for him.

“Al and Eric have worked together as hitting coaches in the farm system and we look forward to them joining Connor in the Major Leagues. At the same time, we would like to thank Ozzie for all of his contributions on the field and as a person over the past three seasons.

“We wish him all the best.”

Milwaukee's offense improved significantly in 2024, ranking second in stolen bases (217), fourth in on-base percentage (.326), sixth in runs scored (4.8 per game) and the eighth-place average (.248) and achieved career seasons by Willy Adames and William Contreras, as well as a breakthrough rookie campaign by Chourio.

The Brewers also ranked ninth in strikeouts and continued to struggle hitting left-handed go-ahead pitches (24-24).

But overall, measured by metrics like Wins Above Replacement (27.2, fifth) and WRC+ (104, 10th).Th), it was a more than solid performance from the unit considering the difficulties it had experienced in 2023 and previous seasons.
