    When the NBA's new season begins Tuesday, one of the most anticipated moments will be a player who isn't even guaranteed to get on the court.

    With LeBron James' aging squad now entering its 22nd season and tying Vince Carter for the league record for longest career, James has been playing for so long that the Lakers drafted his eldest son, Bronny, 20, in June.     Bronny, who signed a four-year contract worth a reported $7.9 million, shot 29.7% from the field in six preseason games. As a starter in Friday's preseason finale, he made his first three-pointer and finished the preseason 1-for-12 from deep. Bronny admitted he had “bad games” in pre-season but said he was proud he kept playing.

    “I feel like my confidence is the biggest thing for me right now,” he told reporters after the preseason finale in San Francisco.

    During his only collegiate season for Southern California — after recovering from a cardiac arrest during a practice in the summer of 2023 — Bronny was not viewed by scouts as a dynamic offensive threat. Instead, they saw his value entering the league in how effectively he could make life difficult for opposing offensive players, which differed from that of his father, who was considered a leading scorer in his NBA debut in 2003.

    LeBron did that and more in a career defined by length and accolades. What will his son's career look like? The first signs could appear on Tuesday.
