BERLIN, CT (WFSB) – On Tuesday morning, emergency crews continued to fight a brush fire deep in the woods of Berlin.

Operations were scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Authorities expected an update at 10 a.m

Firefighters began battling the flames on Lamentation Mountain Monday evening.

The location is directly on the Berlin Turnpike near Casa Mia at Hawthorn.

Fire officials told Channel 3 there was no danger to anyone Tuesday morning. They said it was far away from any houses or buildings.

The reassurance came even though some of the images from the area seemed intense.

According to the Berlin fire department, the first calls about the fire were received shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday.

Before sunset, initial efforts were made to contain the impact on an estimated area of ​​10 to 15 hectares.

Additional resources were brought in from Newington, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Meriden and several other towns.

The biggest challenge for the crews was the steep and rocky terrain. Firefighters said it made the logistics difficult to navigate.

The fire occurred west of Sea Green Drive and Bannon Lane. It was moving slowly northeast.

According to the fire department, no evacuations were necessary.

Crews said they were confident it was far enough away from residential areas.

However, there was a “no fly zone” order.

Because of the lack of rain and the extreme dryness, bushfires were a major concern for fire departments. Multiple fires burned across the state on Monday.
