NFC West standings: Seahawks back on top after another 49ers loss to Chiefs

How quickly things can change in the NFL.

When the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6, they captured the top spot in the NFC West in a head-to-head tiebreaker. The 49ers righted their ship while the Seahawks took on water. Fast forward to Week 7, and the Seahawks are back in first place.

Seattle's 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons was much needed given their three-game losing streak and the need to avoid losing tiebreakers to NFC playoff contenders. It was an impressive road win against a team that is considered the favorite to win the NFC South. A great day turned brilliant as the 49ers once again failed to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a 28-18 home loss in the Super Bowl rematch, and Kyle Shanahan is now 0-5 lifetime as 49ers head coach against Andy Reid.

For those of you who lamented quarterback Brock Purdy's comical number of near-interceptions that never became actual interceptions, today was your special day. Here's not one, not two, but three interceptions from the soon-to-be $60 million man.

Purdy had two QB sneak touchdowns, but otherwise the 49ers offense was out of control all day. Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions but rushed for a touchdown and the Chiefs offense had over 180 on the ground to make up for the difficulty throwing the ball.

Seriously, the 49ers may have lost wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season after an awkward hit bent his leg in a way it shouldn't. Kyle Shanahan fears so Aiyuk tore his cruciate ligamentwhich would obviously end his season. The 49ers were missing Jauan Jennings due to injury and Deebo Samuel left early due to illness, leaving San Francisco depleted at wide receiver. Even if they come back, Aiyuk will still be missing in large numbers on a team that is already noticeably missing Christian McCaffrey.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams cruised to a 20-15 win over the hapless Las Vegas Raiders, who turned to the benched Gardner Minshew after Aidan O'Connell suffered a thumb injury. Minshew turned the ball over four times, including the game-winning interception with less than two minutes left. Still, the Rams are on the road to recovery and Cooper Kupp is expected to return to the lineup in Week 8. So don't discount the Rams from making another serious push for the playoffs… if not the NFC West.

Finally, the Arizona Cardinals have a home game on Monday against the Los Angeles Chargers, followed by a Week 8 road trip against the Miami Dolphins, who should have Tua Tagovailoa back.
