Voter registration is officially closed for those wishing to cast their ballot in the 2024 presidential election.

“In general, we are seeing an increase in all registrations. I see older people who may not have voted since 2008,” said Pamela Rogers, board president of the Tuscaloosa registrar.

The Tuscaloosa County registrar's office said there was a three percent increase in registered voters compared to the 2020 election campaign.

“I think both parties are trying to get people to vote, and we can always tell when a voter initiative has taken place,” Rogers said.

Much of this increase is due to young adults away from home attending college.

“We have three colleges here, University, Shelton and Stillman. So a lot of times students will think they're going to register and vote at home, some of them realize I missed the deadline so they're rushing now “I'm here to register,” Rogers said.

Students on the University of Alabama campus said they are fully prepared to vote in their first presidential election.

“I’m registered at home, I’m going to get a mail-in ballot,” said UA student Garret Kramer.

“Yes, I am registered to vote in Michigan,” said UA student Logan Petrus.

As far as absentee voting is concerned, the last day to request an absentee ballot is October 29th.

For those who wish to apply in person, the date is October 31st.
