'Venom: The Last Dance' Promises $70 Million US Opening: Box Office

With Warner Bros.' Joker: Folie à Deux Given the bombings and the fact that total ticket sales last weekend were down 43% compared to the same period last year, the October box office could feel a little sluggish.

At this point we ask ourselves, “Where are you, Venom?” A nation's box office turns its lonely eyes on you. Literally. Tracking has Sony's black-suited, fanged Spider-Man anti-hero (yes, he's from the Spider-Verse, OK?!) threequel, Venom: The Last Dance, is expected to score a $70 million opening when it hits theaters on October 25th.

That's right, that's the lowest start in the world Poison Trilogy, behind 2021 Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($90 million, third-best for October) and the 2018 original's opening with $80.2 million (fourth-best for the month), but after the crater disappeared Joker 2Hell, we start with $70 million. Let's hope the projection doesn't give way. At this level, Poison 3 would be the second best opening for a comic book feature film after 2024 Deadpool and WolverineIt costs $211.4 million.

Currently, men under 25 are leading the unaided awareness category (the category in which respondents bring up the title of the film without being asked to do so in a survey) and are the top choice. Men over 25 are the second strongest demo in both categories.

Kelly Marcel, who wrote the first two Poisons makes her feature film debut in the Tom Hardy series. Through two films, the Sony Marvel Poison The franchise counts $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office.

The only other film hitting theaters on October 25 from a major studio is Focus Features' critically acclaimed festival favorite conclave by Edward Berger, which currently has a 91% rating from 51 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the awkwardness of the October earnings report, Comscore says the first 13 days of the month were +4% at $209.7 million compared to the same period last year. Although Joker 2 hasn't delivered, you can thank Warner Bros. for robust fall business Beetlejuice Beetlejuice; the post-Labor Day frame totaled $760.6 million, up 17% compared to the same period ended Oct. 13 a year ago.
