Sisters Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are no strangers to rocking vintage fashion. Whether it's Kim wearing 1990s Versace on the red carpet or Kylie wearing an archival Dolce & Gabbana on vacation, the Kardashian-Jenners are proven fans of retro designs. (In fact, after Kardashian's Marilyn Monroe Met Gala dress in 2022, it's now a joke that no priceless, rare dress is safe from her credit card.)

So it only made sense that both Kim and Kylie repped a retro look at last night's star-studded Academy Museum Gala – even if it turned out that the two stars were wearing outfits from the same iconic 1990s collection.

That would be Mugler's Spring 1998 collection, a widely acclaimed show that showcased Thierry Mugler's masterful corsetry and figure-hugging silhouettes. But while Kim and Kylie both adopted looks from the lineup, each one gave them a completely different feel. Kim – who has worn Mugler on the carpet many times, including at the 2019 Met Gala – slipped into one of his form-fitting white corset bodices and paired it with a slinky white robe and nude PVC heels. This isn't the first time Kim has slipped into one of his hip-hugging creations, which are known to be telling fashion on her 2019 Met look: “If I don't sit down to dinner, now you know why.”

Kylie, on the other hand, opted for one of Mugler's less restrictive shapes – although her extremely form-fitting dress placed just as much focus on the shape. The skin-colored, slinky slip dress with a black skirt overlay was structural and simple and looked just as modern today as it did in 1998.

Apparently the two sisters are both scientists from the Mugler archives. The question is: Do you think they argued about who got what look? Or did they rummage through the archives together and each come up with their own wish lists? Whatever the circumstances, they delivered another one of their winning vintage moments.
