MLB results: Dodgers 10, Mets 5 – Mets season comes to an end

The Mets' season came to an end tonight in Los Angeles as the Dodgers defeated them 10-5 in Game 6 of the NLCS. A few months ago, even the suggestion that the Mets could make it this far would have been laughed at. But that doesn't make the end of the season any less painful at the moment.

If you had to pick one pitcher to take the mound for a must-win game, it would have been Sean Manaea. Unfortunately, he didn't have it in this game. He recorded just six outs and was blamed for five runs. The Mets had a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Manaea's performance put them behind for good. Phil Maton, who replaced Manaea and allowed an inherited runner to score, gave up a run himself – the Dodgers' sixth run of the night.

However, Manaea should not be solely responsible for the loss. The Mets had plenty of opportunities to score runs. They rarely took advantage of them.

With the team trailing 6-1 in the fourth, Mark Vientos hit a two-run home run to bring the Mets within three points. That made it a legitimately close game at this point.

Edwin Díaz was asked to pitch the fourth and fifth innings, and he performed admirably under unexpected circumstances. He kept the team in the game with two scoreless innings.

But Ryne Stanek gave up a run without recording an out in the sixth. At 7-3, the Mets were pretty close with a sac fly in the top of the seventh.

But soon after, things spiraled out of control. After Reed Garrett threw a scoreless inning, Kodai Senga threw a scoreless inning of his own before things really went downhill. He gave up three runs in his second frame and recorded just two outs as the Mets fell behind by six.

The Mets managed a run in the ninth. We hope there will be a better ending next year.
