Tyrese Haliburton talks about his 'cool friendship' with Caitlin Clark – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The city of Indianapolis has no shortage of basketball stars.

The Indiana Pacers, of course, have guard Tyrese Haliburton, along with guys like forward Pascal Siakam and center Myles Turner, among others.

The Indiana Fever now has guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell as well as forward Aliyah Boston, among others.

What's really nice to see is the support that the individual franchises give each other.

For example, you see Fever players at Pacers games, and you see Pacers players at Fever games. In fact, Haliburton was a familiar face on the sidelines during Fever games last summer, cheering on Indiana's WNBA franchise.

Haliburton said during Pacers Media Day that he had attended “a ton” of Fever games before this season. But even he would be the first to say that the 2024 Fever season was unforgettable.

“It’s been really cool to see women’s basketball kind of explode and a big part of that is the Fever, right in my backyard,” Haliburton said.

During the games, fans were able to get a first-hand look at the friendship that has formed between the two faces of the franchise – Haliburton and Clark.

Haliburton said that during McCaffery's tenure as the Pacers' basketball development coordinator, he developed a close relationship with Connor McCaffery, Clark's friend. He is also close with Clark.

“Me, her (Clark), him (McCaffery) and my friend Jade all have a group chat where we talk about everything pretty often,” Haliburton said. “It was pretty cool to build a friendship with her.”

Clark is arguably one of the most popular athletes in the United States, if not the world. Haliburton even referenced the fact that so many people are constantly following what Clark is up to or just want to know what Clark thinks about issues.

“We’re friends, and I think that’s a cool part,” Haliburton said. “If she wants to talk about basketball, we talk about basketball. If not, I'm completely okay with that too. But I think we developed a pretty cool friendship alongside Connor.”

Clark, who was recently named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, helped lead the Fever to the postseason. It was the team's first trip to the playoffs since 2016.

“It’s been really cool to see their growth over the last year,” Haliburton said. “And the fever as a whole. Seeing Kelsey (Mitchell) get playoff experience and just the whole group – Aliyah (Boston) – the whole group. Just cool to follow the team.”

The Pacers conclude their preseason schedule on Thursday when they host the Charlotte Hornets at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
