Garrett Wilson is emerging as a trade candidate for the Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking for a big-name wide receiver all summer, but have yet to land a move that they believe fills their biggest need. While they tried to sign Davante Adams, the failure – and Adams ending up with the New York Jets – could work in their favor.

With Adams joining Aaron Rodgers in New York as the clear-cut WR1 for the Jets, the team may want to clear a roster spot at that position. Mike Williams is the most credible name to move in response to Adams, but ESPN's Adam Schefter floated a different scenario for teams like the Steelers.

“After the New York Jets acquired Davante Adams this week, a select group of NFL teams have inquired about whether the Jets would be willing to trade fellow star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, league sources told ESPN on Saturday with,” writes Schefter.

Because of his low salary and rookie contract, Wilson makes sense as a starting player for any team.

According to Schefter, the Jets are not interested in trading Wilson at this time. That doesn't seem to stop teams from calling.

The Steelers have been the team to watch for all wide receiver candidates this season. They started with the pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk, which ended until the end. At the time, they were interested in both Tim Patrick of the Denver Broncos and John Metchie of the Houston Texans. Ultimately, it was Adams with whom they explored the option, even though the Jets were the heavy favorite.

Well, it could be Wilson. As the deadline approaches, New York's next two games could help them move away from their previous first-round pick. If they do that, the Steelers will be a team to watch.
