Enzo Maresca says Chelsea 'unhappy' after Liverpool defeat: 'We don't like losing games'

Enzo Maresca says Chelsea are “not happy” with their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, insisting his side “don't lose games” and feel like they control much of the game.

Despite more possession and shots on target (12), Curtis Jones' second-half winner kept Arne Slot's side top of the Premier League on Sunday, while Chelsea's efforts went unrewarded.

Maresca's side dominated for long periods but were undone by Jones' decisive strike after Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Chelsea responded with a fine equalizer through Nicolas Jackson, but Jones' strike made the difference.

Despite the defeat, Maresca remained optimistic about his team's performance and praised their control of the game, but admitted he was frustrated with the result.

“I think the performance was very good,” said Maresca. “I just said we don't like losing games or losing points, but if you have to choose a path then this is probably the right path. I've been to the stadium many times and seen Liverpool for a long time, it's not easy.

“I think overall we controlled the game and dominated most of the game, but we lost. We are not happy. We don’t like it, but as I said, the performance on and off the ball was very good.”

Despite a strong finish from Chelsea, Liverpool maintained their position at the top of the table with 21 points from eight games, one more than Manchester City, who also won against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the day.

Chelsea are now in sixth place with 14 points.
