Timberwolves News: Anthony Edwards announces intention to play in NFL

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar guard Anthony Edwards is truly one of a kind.

Edwards is great at what he does on the hardwood, but as we've learned about him over the years, he's more than that.

Edwards is the ultimate athlete and he has often bragged about it. Although he has established himself as a top player in the NBA in his short career, he intends to play in a different professional league and a different sport.

Edwards shared his intentions to play in the NFL if he wins an NBA title in the next three to four years.

If everything works out for the 23-year-old superstar, he will be 26 or 27 by then. It's unclear what position he wants to play, but let's not stop him from playing any position he wants.

As a child, Edwards played the positions of running back, quarterback and cornerback. He played youth football for the Atlanta Vikings and became one of the top Pop Warner running backs in the country at age 10.

As we've learned from Edwards, he's never afraid to tell us what he thinks about his abilities, no matter the sport. Last summer, when he was a member of Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he said he would be one of the members of the U.S. women's table tennis team.

In addition, he also called himself the “No. 1 Option” for Team USA, which included a loaded team with LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

“I’m still the No. 1 option,” Edwards said while speaking to media from Team USA’s training camp in Las Vegas. “You may see it differently, I don’t see it differently.”

“I just go out there and be myself,” Edwards continued. “I shoot my shots, play defense and, you know, they have to fit in to play around me. That’s how I feel.”

Edwards is a confident guy, and if he's set his mind to it, who are we to doubt him?

Although he has great ambitions to play in the NFL, the city of Minnesota and the Timberwolves organization plan to keep him around for a long time, even if they win a title during that time frame.

The Timberwolves have yet to win an NBA title in their franchise history, but they feel like they have the right player to take them to new heights. Last year they were close to their first trip to the NBA Finals, but fell in the Western Conference Finals.

Although they made changes to their roster before the start of the season, they are still confident that they will be the team to represent the Western Conference in this year's NBA Finals and accomplish that task.
