How to play connections

If you've never played before Connections Beforehand, the rules of the game are easy to understand.

At the start, players are given a table with 16 words. These words must be divided into four groups of four based on common characteristics and classified into categories. The categories vary in difficulty from yellow to green and blue to purple, with yellow being the easiest category and purple being the most difficult category.

For example, in a recent game, the words “braid,” “bun,” “bangs,” and “twist” were linked together in the category “Ways to Wear Your Hair Up.” This was a blue category.

Once you have selected four words, click the “Send” button. If your selection is correct, they will be displayed in the category color and hidden from the grid. However, if they are incorrect, they remain gray and remain on the board.

If you get stuck, click the Shuffle button to move the words elsewhere in the grid. This might just give you the refresher you've been looking for.
