Florida football freshman running back Jadan Baugh shines against Kentucky

DJ Lagway gets most of the attention offensively for Florida, but Jadan Baugh was the star for UF vs. Kentucky. Here's what you should know about the freshman running back.

Among the true freshmen on the Florida football roster, DJ Lagway is soaking up the most oxygen. This was particularly the case before Saturday's game against Kentucky, where Lagway was set to make his first SEC start.

But another Gator who filled in for an injured starter made a name for himself:

Jadan Baugh.

Baugh made his first career start in place of the injured Montrell Johnson and capitalized on the opportunity with 18 carries for 87 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

Jadan Baugh is from Atlanta

Baugh grew up outside of Georgia's capital and attended Columbia High School in Decatur. In his senior season, he scored a total of 16 touchdowns (16th at Georgia) and intercepted six passes (25th at Georgia). His 1,583 rush yards ranked 33rd at Georgia.

Baugh chose Florida over Alabama, Texas and others

A 4-star player by On3, 247 and Rivals, Baugh was ranked the 18th best running back in the 2024 class by Rivals. Several Power 4 programs expressed interest in the two-way star, but he chose Florida, in part because of his relationship with RB coach Jabar Juluke.

“The relationship between me and Coach Juluke has grown stronger every time we have spoken. He's a great coach, but he's also a great person outside of football. He’s always going to be himself no matter what,” Baugh told On3 last December.

He began spring training third on the depth chart

This wasn't a big surprise since the two running backs ahead of him were established. Johnson temporarily parted ways with Trevor Etienne last season. Sophomore Treyaun Webb also received some time at RB last season, most notably against FSU.

Baugh had a solid spring game

On the Orange team, Baugh was paired with Lagway and shined. His 12 carries and 77 yards were more than any other running back in the Orange-Blue game.

This season he has primarily returned kicks

Baugh's original role was to serve as a kick returner, but his time in the backfield has steadily increased. He earned coach Billy Napier's trust with four carries for 53 yards against Mississippi State. Against UCF and Tennessee, Baugh received the Rock a total of 21 times for 55 yards.
