Tennessee faces a $100,000 fine for field storming after its win at Alabama

Tennessee faces a $100,000 fine from the SEC if fans storm the field Saturday — and the money is owed to Alabama after the Vols' second straight win over the Crimson Tide at Neyland Stadium.

This fine is in accordance with the SEC Field Storm Policy established in June 2023, which also specifies that fines are owed to the opposing institution. The updated SEC policy on access to competitive spaces fines schools $100,000 for their first violation, $250,000 for a second violation and $500,000 for a third violation.

The updated policy reset the schools' previous fine record, making Saturday the first violation for the Vols. No. 10 Tennessee (6-1, 3-1 SEC) defeated No. 7 Alabama (5-2, 2-2) 24-17. Fans stormed the field and tore down the goal posts at both ends of the field.

How much will Tennessee be fined if fans storm the field against Alabama?

Tennessee will be fined $100,000 for Saturday's field storming celebration, although SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey can levy additional fines if necessary.

Under previous SEC policy, fans storming a playing surface would have been subject to a $250,000 fine for a repeat offense.

Tennessee was fined $100,000 in October 2022 after fans stormed the field after the Vols beat Alabama 52-49. The fine was imposed as a second offense under the SEC's prior policy on access to competitive space. Tennessee's first offense occurred when fans stormed the court at a basketball game against Florida in 2006.

Previously, schools were fined $50,000 for the first violation, $100,000 for the second violation and $250,000 for the third violation and each subsequent violation. The funds were donated to the SEC Postgraduate Scholarship Fund.
