Celebrate Honolulu Pride at the parade and festival on Saturday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu Pride is taking over Waikiki on Saturday and for the first time ever, the festivities begin in the afternoon.

The Honolulu Pride Parade begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Magic Island entrance to Ala Moana Regional Park, proceeds along Ala Moana Boulevard to Kalakaua Avenue and ends at Kapiolani Park.

Over 4,000 participants are expected to attend, including floats, bands, trolleys and walkers from businesses, nonprofits, social groups, government agencies and more.

The Honolulu Pride Festival begins at 5 p.m. at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell.

Attendees can enjoy performances from World of Wonders RuPaul's Drag Race headliners Marina Summers and Nymphia Wind, Neighbor Islands Pride groups and more.

Before this year, the parade took place in the morning.

“We heard it was hot, so we thought, you know what? Let’s move it until night,” said Lord Ryan Lizardo, chairman of the Honolulu Pride Festival. “We’re really excited to just try out what it looks like at night.

“We're going to have some really cool activations that you can see, different things, lights that we're going to have fun with this year,” Lizardo said, “so I hope it's a great thing for our community, and you all see something new.”

The Honolulu Pride Parade and Festival is hosted by the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation.
