Game updates, live score in college football

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Auburn football is back from its bye and hopes to end its three-game losing streak when it travels to No. 16 Missouri to open Week 8 of the 2024 college football season.

Auburn coach Hugh Freeze will lead his team in an SEC road game. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT (ESPN/ESPN+) from Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri.

Auburn (2-3, 0-2 SEC) is two weeks removed from a 31-13 loss at No. 4 Georgia. Quarterback Payton Thorne threw for 200 yards, leading an offense that didn't turn the ball over for the first time this season.

Mizzou (5-1, 1-1 SEC) bounced back from its 41-10 loss to Texas A&M with a 45-3 win at UMass last week. Missouri's star wide receiver Luther Burden III left the game with a shoulder injury but was not listed on the SEC availability report Thursday night, so he will be active for Saturday's game.

Third quarter updates

12:53 p.m.: The second half is approaching. Mizzou said starting quarterback Brady Cook and running back Nate Noel are “unlikely to return with lower-body injuries.”

Halftime: Auburn 3, Missouri 3

12:34 p.m. — The “meh” half of football you’ll ever see. Eugene Asante ended the second quarter with a sack. Auburn has had a few hits on Drew Pyne since entering the game.

Payton Thorne is 11-15 for 70 yards. Auburn has 58 yards on the ground.

Mizzou has 133 total yards, including 69 through the air.

12:32 p.m. — The struggling Mizzou offense got the ball to Luther Burden III for the first time today. This is a win for the Auburn defense.

12:27 p.m.: Auburn plays extremely conservative on third-and-10, losing five on a handoff to Jarquez Hunter.

Auburn punts and Mizzou is held at the eight with 1:48 left in the half.

12:23 p.m.: Two minutes of “timeout” after Auburn scored 15 points after Jeremiah Cobb fended off a tackle on third-and-10. This game was tough. Auburn at Mizzou 33.

12:20 p.m.: Auburn gets a first down on third-and-short and also receives a horsecollar penalty. Auburn at Mizzou 33.

12:18 p.m.: Mizzou missed a 55-yard field goal. Solid field position for Auburn at their own 38.

12:14 p.m.: Mizzou QB Brady Cook is still not on the sidelines and Drew Pyne remains in the game. There was no update in the press box after initial side reports suggested the matter was not too serious. Strange.

12:09 p.m.: Payton Thorne now fumbles after running into his lead blocker's buttocks, and Mizzou recovers. This will remain standing. Missouri ball is at 40 and this game is ugly.

12:05 p.m.: Jarquez Hunter's fumble is no longer a fumble. A cheek hits the ground and Auburn keeps the ball at its own 47.

12:01 p.m.: When I hit publish in the previous update, Jarquez Hunter fumbled and the ball was recovered by Mizzou. It is currently under review and there is a good chance it will be repealed. Could be Auburn's ball at midfield.

Midday: Mizzou rolled deeper and deeper into Auburn territory, but a QB-RB change error was recovered by Jalen McLeod on Auburn's 33rd.

11:52 a.m.: Auburn's drive stalls and Towns McGough scores the equalizer with a 32-yard field goal.

11:49 a.m.: An 18-yard connection between Payton Thorne and Jarquez Hunter brings Auburn to the Mizzou 19. So far, one seven-play drive has gone for 63 yards after starting with eight yards between drives.

End of first quarter: Missouri 3, Auburn 0

11:40 a.m.: The quarter ends after Auburn strung together two runs for a 10-plus score. It had eight yards on its first two drives.

Auburn is a little grateful to only be down 3-0 at the end of the first period. At the start of the second quarter it was 49.

11:39 a.m.: Breaking: Auburn has its first first down! Payton Thorne ran for 14 yards.

11:37 a.m.: Auburn made defensive saves for the second straight game. On third-and-2, tight end Jordon Harris dropped a pass when he had enough room to run. Instead, Mizzou beats.

Auburn takes over at its 22nd with 1:57 left in the first period.

11:35 a.m.: Another three for Auburn. It has eight yards in six plays. Mizzou takes over on the 23rd.

11:29 a.m.: Auburn got away with what looked like a DPI, but the referees ruled a deep ball on third down was uncatchable.

Mizzou misses a 49-yarder wide left. It's still 3-0 Mizzou with 4:56 left in the quarter.

11:23 a.m.: Auburn makes a three-pointer on its first offensive attempt and the punt only goes to the 50th line. Not a good start.

11:16 a.m.: Mizzou kicker Blake Craig hit a 51-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 8:24 left in the first.

11:15 a.m.: Missouri QB Brady Cook goes down alone and limps off the field. Sack for a loss of 11 while remaining untouched. He goes straight to the locker room and jogs. Drew Pine replaces him.

11:11 a.m.: Missouri gets into Auburn territory with ease as QB Brady Cook completes two of his first three passes for 22 yards. Mizzou at Auburn 44.

11:05 a.m.: It's time to say goodbye to Columbia.

Auburn won the toss and will defer to the second half.

Pregame updates for Auburn Football vs. Missouri

10:44 a.m.: It may be crazy to those who have followed Auburn this season, but everyone pretty much agrees on how this game will turn out. People with Mizzou say they have no idea how good it is because of the schedule and the loss at Texas A&M. They realize Auburn could look better without the turnovers.

10:35 a.m.: Mizzou running back Nate Noel and wide receiver Luther Burden III have been officially announced as the starters for today's game. Noel spent most of the week on the injury report, while Burden left last week's UMass win with a shoulder injury.

10:05 a.m.: Good morning from what the locals call “CoMo”. Both Tigers groups are on the field preparing for Missouri's home game. A sellout crowd is expected here at Memorial Stadium.

The final SEC availability report was released this morning and Auburn is without Jamonta Waller (OLB), Tyler Scott (DB), Champ Anthony (DB), and Brandon Frazier (TE).

Mizzou notably removed star wide receiver Luther Burden III from its availability report. Running back Nate Noel was also removed and will play this morning.
