Paragliders flying high in the sky are used to enjoying mesmerizing aerial views of some of the world's most famous ancient landmarks. But dogs don't usually hang out at landmarks.

As U.S. paraglider Marshall Mosher and other paragliders flew over Egypt's famous Great Pyramids at sunrise earlier this week, they spotted the unexpected sight of a stray dog ​​also enjoying the view around the summit of one of the ancient wonders.

“We noticed something running back and forth at the top of the pyramid,” Mosher told CNN Travel. “One person thought it was a mountain lion.”

The adventurers quickly grabbed their phones and zoomed to the top of Khafre, the second highest pyramid – which is off-limits to humans – only to find a dog seemingly chasing some birds at the top of the 136-meter-tall pyramid. meters) structure.

Mosher remembers being a little worried. “Maybe he WAS? “I’m stuck up there,” he thought. But his worries soon subsided.

“Once he gets up, he can come back down unless he finds a secret portal that will help him teleport to the top of the pyramids,” he joked.

The next day they flew over the pyramid again, curious to see if the dog was still there, but with no luck. However, a fellow adventurer shot a video that showed the same dog safely descending the pyramid.

It is unclear whether it was the same animal because hundreds of stray dogs roam the pyramid complex, some of which are often seen near the base, Mosher explained. The paraglider says he is actively searching for animal shelters in Cairo to help these strays find safer, less adventurous homes.

The dog's videos quickly went viral on social media, with Mosher's first post receiving millions of views on Instagram overnight.

Although Mosher has been creating content for a few years, he was surprised by the level of interest in the canine adventure. “I thought the opportunity to fly over the pyramids would be somewhat interesting news, but no one cares,” he said.

Some online commenters have made a connection between the dog and Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, often depicted as a man with a jackal's head.

As part of an annual flying event organized by SkyOne Egypt, Mosher regularly flies over the Great Pyramids of Giza by paraglider, offering a unique way to explore the iconic site.

“I understand why the dog wanted to go up there. It’s definitely the best prospect for the Cairo street dog that I think there is,” he said.
