Some Social Security recipients will receive two payments in November – once on November 1, 2024 and another on November 29, 2024, according to the Social Security Administration's 2024-2025 payment calendar.

But the November 29th payment is not a bonus payment. This is a workaround to provide Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients with their benefits even on days when banks are not closed.

This year, the first day of December falls on a Sunday, when banks are normally closed.

However, SSI recipients will still receive a check in December to serve as a payment in January. It won't be until the end of the month, December 31, 2024.

This trend of receiving next month's check in the previous month will continue over the next few months of 2025 until checks stop being issued in March. After that, the payment schedule returns to normal.

Most Social Security recipients receive their payments on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday, depending on what day they were born.

However, SSI recipients, which include the blind, disabled and people age 65 or older without much financial means, typically receive their payments on the first day of each month.

However, receiving two payments in the same month is a unique situation for SSI recipients because in most years the first of the month falls on a weekday.

The Social Security Administration also announced the cost of living adjustment for 2025, representing a 2.5% increase in benefits. This is one of the smallest performance increases in years.
