Weekend highway closures in metro Phoenix

play

Closures and lane restrictions are planned on portions of Phoenix-area highways this weekend, October 18-21.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, improvement projects require the closure of Interstate 10, Interstate 17 and Loop 101.

ADOT encourages drivers to allow additional travel time and consider alternative routes.

I-10 and US 60

Highway closures from Friday 10:00 p.m. to Monday 4:00 a.m

I-10 westbound will be closed due to construction between US 60 (Superstition Freeway) and the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Ramp closures begin Friday at 8 p.m

The I-10 westbound ramps at Elliot and Baseline streets will also be closed.

The US 60 westbound ramps at McClintock Drive, Rural Road and Mill Avenue will be closed.

Detours

ADOT recommends drivers use eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) or eastbound US 60 to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) before taking westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in Tempe to reach Sky Harbor or downtown Phoenix.

To avoid the closure and reach I-10 in the West Valley, motorists may consider using Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) heading west and north.

Additional closures: Friday 8:00 p.m. to Monday 4:00 a.m

Broadway Road will be closed between 48th and 55th streets (over I-10).

40th Street at I-10 will be closed.

I-17 southbound will be closed between Peoria Avenue and Seventh Avenue due to road sealing.

The I-10 ramps to southbound I-17 at the Stack interchange (south of McDowell Road) will be closed.

ADOT notes that these schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather.

Northbound closures from 9pm Saturday to 2pm Sunday

I-17 northbound will be closed between the I-10 “Split” interchange (near Sky Harbor Airport) and Peoria Avenue due to road sealing.

The northbound I-10 ramps to I-17 at the Stack interchange will be closed.

Restrictions and closures on I-17 in north Phoenix

During most overnight hours, southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between State Route 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303 for pavement improvement. These lane restrictions apply from 9:00 p.m. Friday to 9:00 a.m. Saturday, 9:00 p.m. Saturday to 9:00 a.m. Sunday and 9:00 p.m. Sunday to 5:00 a.m. Monday.

The I-17 southbound on-ramps at SR 74 and the exit at Dove Valley Road are closed Friday and Saturday nights.

I-17 southbound exits and on-ramps at Loop 303 will be closed Sunday evening.

I-17 northbound will be narrowed to one lane overnight between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 (9:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.) Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Detours

Remember to allow for additional travel time. Consider traveling if no restrictions are planned.

Avoid using neighborhood streets east of I-17 that are not designed for freeway traffic.

Loop 101

Northbound closures from 10pm Friday to 5am Monday

Loop 101 northbound (Pima Freeway) will be closed between Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Pima Road/Princess Drive for bridge work.

The northbound Loop 101 ramps at Cactus Road and Raintree Drive will also be closed.

detour

According to ADOT, traffic will be detoured via the northbound Loop 101 frontage road and rejoin the freeway at Pima Road.

Eastbound closures from 10pm Friday to 5am Monday

The 101 eastbound Loop (Agua Fria Freeway) will be closed between 51st and 19th Avenues for work zone establishment and asphalt pavement removal.

The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at 75th, 67th and 59th Avenues will also be closed.

detour

Consider exiting before the closure and use Union Hills Drive or Bell Road eastbound.

Freeway traffic exiting 51st Avenue will use the access road.

ADOT recommends scheduling additional travel to compensate for delays.
