The Blue Angels are preparing to soar during the NAS Jax Air Show this weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Blue Angels are preparing for an amazing air show at Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jacksonville) this weekend.

The NAS Jax Air Show, the birthplace of the Blue Angels, will take place on Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th at NAS Jax. Gates open at 9 a.m. and the show begins at 11 a.m. It will be the last time the group will be seen in the Jacksonville area for a short time, as they are not scheduled to perform in the county next year.

This year, the Blue Angels have selected seven new officers to join the team for the 2024 air show. Each year there is a new selection for the Blue Angels team at its home base in Pensacola.

A02 Marcos Ivey can help keep the legacy he witnessed as a child alive.

“Well, my dad used to take me to the air shows here in Jacksonville when I was a little kid,” Ivey said. “And it’s always been a dream to be a Blue Angel and part of the team.”

The Blue Angels team consists of over 100 active-duty Sailors and Marines. Lt. Commander Natalia Luchetti is one of them. She said she's excited to be a part of it, especially as a woman who helps ensure the safety of those who fly as an assistant maintenance officer.

“It is truly an incredible honor to have been in the Navy for 23 years and being able to represent every Sailor and Marine I have served with during my time in the military is 1,000 percent the highlight of my career,” Luchetti said .

If you want to catch them, this weekend is the time to do it. They will not return to Jacksonville in 2025.

“If you've never seen the Blue Angels flying display or an air show in general, certainly the Blue Angels, I would tell people it's very hard to describe and I would encourage people to come along and see “What this team is doing and looking at it.” Teamwork and professionalism were shown,” said captain Alex Armatas.

The NAS Jax Airshow will consist of a variety of military and civilian demonstrations and conclude with a grand finale by the Navy's flight demonstration team, The Blue Angels, beginning at 2:30 p.m

In addition to the air show, there are fun activities such as military and civilian aircraft displays, a novelty shop, food and a KidsZone for all ages. There is an ATM on site and it is recommended to bring cash.

Gates open at 9:00 a.m. and the show begins at 11:00 a.m. The event is open and free to the public. No tickets are required. Spectators over 18 must show photo ID upon entry.
