The singer's appearance came after her recent comments about her mental health made headlines. During Wondermind's Mental Fitness Summit keynote on October 10, Gomez shared that she no longer sleeps in her bedroom.

“I’m a very anxious person,” she began, asking how she deals with feeling overwhelmed. “It's a bit like the end of the world and I think that having a positive conversation with yourself, even if it sounds strange, has a big impact. For example, before I get out of the car, and there's going to be a lot of noise and stuff – if that's the case, then I'm not saying it happens every day – but I have to breathe and I have to say, “All this “'is a gift, and I may not be in the mood for it, (but) every time I see someone and make them smile, (it) just brightens my day, no matter how I'm feeling.”

“I actually released a documentary (My mind and I),” she continued, referencing the film project that covered her struggles with psychosis and bipolar depression. “I'm a little different than my mom because I spent too much time in my bedroom that I don't actually sleep in my bedroom anymore because I associate it with such a really dark time.”

She admitted that “anxiety is very debilitating at times, and yes, I didn't want to leave my bed for years, and part of that was because I wasn't doing the work. And you have to believe in yourself to do the work that really enlightens you a little.”
