Uber driver attacked in Queens: Woman wanted after victim was beaten and mugged in Bellerose

BELLEROSE, Queens (WABC) — Police are investigating after an Uber driver was carjacked by a woman who ended up crashing into a group of other cars before fleeing on foot in Queens.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 10, at approximately 11:20 p.m. on 86th Avenue in Bellerose, Queens.

According to police, a 52-year-old Uber driver was picking up a passenger at the location when an unknown woman entered the vehicle.

Surveillance video shows the thief opening the passenger door of the Uber.

The woman then punched the victim multiple times in the face and body, bit him in the back and pushed him out of his vehicle, police said.

They say the woman then fled in the victim's vehicle and drove west on 86th Avenue before crashing into several parked cars and a tree.

The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in stable condition.

Uber released a statement in response to the attack.

“What this driver went through is nothing short of horrifying. We contacted him and offered him support. “We have contacted the police and will continue to do everything we can to support their investigation,” an Uber spokesperson said.

Police are now searching for the suspect, described as a woman, approximately 5 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds.

Meanwhile, the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is calling on Uber to temporarily replace the driver's car because driving is his livelihood and he now has no way to work.
