“Anxiety is so draining sometimes, and yes, I didn't want to leave my bed for years, and part of that was because I wasn't doing the work,” she continued. “I am a very anxious person. It's a bit like the end of the world, and I think that having a positive conversation with yourself, even if it sounds strange, really has an impact.”

Gomez then walked the audience through her methods for calming down in high-intensity situations.

“Like, before I get out of the car, and there's going to be a lot of noise and stuff – if that's the case, I'm not saying it happens every day – but I need to breathe,” the Disney alum added . “And I have to say, 'This is all a gift, and I may not be in the mood for it, (but) every time I see someone and I end up making them smile, (it) just ruins my day.' .' No matter how I feel.'”

The “Calm Down” singer also spoke about the importance of having a tight “inner circle.”

“I don’t have many people in my life, (but) I know who my inner circle is. I need to discuss things,” Gomez admitted. “And I also have a therapist, but it’s also nice to have people around you who just listen to you.”

She noted, “There is a freedom in letting go of everything that holds you tight and causes a lump in your throat.”

During the panel, Gomez also reflected on her 2022 documentary “My Mind & Me,” in which she discussed her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and her life with lupus.

One key thing that has helped the Rare Beauty founder is taking a break from social media, but at the same time, she admitted that she had to “stop defending herself.”

“Because I shouldn't apologize for being honest, saying that I'm not good and what you said isn't nice,” Gomez said, adding that her mother taught her , “that the noise will be there all the time.”

“But it's about finding the moment where I actually physically say, 'No, I'm a good person, I'm nice, I work really hard and I'm grateful and I love all the little things in life' and . “I need this reminder.”

However, Gomez noted, “I'm not going to lie, it kind of hurts.” I’m definitely not one of those people who can somehow ignore it.”

“I only speak on behalf of my generation because it's crazy how inhumane people can be with their words and things that they would probably never say in person. It just hurts.”
