One of these allegations relates to suffocation. The victim reported no life-threatening injuries to police.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in provincial court in Meadow Lake on Monday morning.

On Thursday, a baby boy, just five days old, was taken from a home in the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

The man, identified by RCMP as the boy's father, turned himself in about 40 minutes after the alarm was raised.

On Friday evening, the Saskatchewan RCMP issued an update saying the subsequent investigation determined that no charges would be laid in connection with the Amber Alert incident.

“The immediate police response and resulting AMBER Alert helped us quickly locate the baby – and ensure his safety,” said Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Insp. Ashley St. Germaine. “This situation is a testament to the power of the Saskatchewan AMBER Alert program. We sincerely thank the public and our news partners for their assistance in this investigation, which fortunately had a positive outcome.”

Police said they were unable to provide further details about the incident – or the child – because there was no current court case involved and they needed to be considerate of the baby's privacy.

While police confirmed that the man involved in the Amber Alert operation appeared in court on unrelated charges, to protect the victim's privacy, no further details were released, including the name of the accused man.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore was on the Evan Bray show Friday morning and explained that Amber Alerts are not sent out lightly.

“The key factor is that because there are cases where there are custody disputes, we have to assume that the child is at risk of physical harm or death,” she said

Blackmore added that they have to maintain a high threshold and not issue an amber warning if they don't know enough details.
