Bret Baier says he 'made a mistake' in Kamala Harris Fox News interview.

Fox News host Bret Baier said he “made a mistake” during his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday and that he intended to show a clip of Donald Trump making comments about “the enemy within.”

During a sometimes heated interview, Baier took the Democratic presidential nominee to task over the Biden administration's positions on immigration, crime and transgender health. They also discussed whether Trump, their Republican opponent, poses a threat to American democracy.

Harris' appearance on the conservative-leaning network came at a time when polls suggest the race between her and Trump is still close. Election analysis website 538 gives Harris a 52 percent chance of victory versus 48 percent for Trump. To further boost her appeal, the vice president is reportedly considering appearing on comedian Joe Rogan's podcast, which is particularly popular with young men.

In an interview broadcast Sunday, Trump spoke with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, who asked him about President Joe Biden's comments. The president said earlier this month that he was not sure whether the 2024 presidential election would be peaceful.

Trump told Bartiromo: “I think the bigger problem is the enemy within. Not even the people who came in and destroyed our country – by the way, completely destroyed our country. The cities, the villages, they're going to be flooded.” But I don't think they're the problem heading into Election Day. I think the bigger problem is the people on the inside.

“We have some very desperate people. We have some sick people – radical left-wing crazy people. And I think that the National Guard, if necessary, or if it really is necessary, the military should be able to handle it very easily.”

Trump's proposal to deploy the U.S. military against “the enemy within” sparked controversy that the Republican nominee was expected to address when he appeared at a Fox News town hall for women voters moderated by Harris Faulkner.

Newsweek contacted Fox News and Donald Trump's presidential campaign via email outside of regular office hours on Friday for comment.

Referring to his previous comments, Trump said at Wednesday's event: “They said I threatened. I don't threaten anyone. They are the ones who threaten. They are conducting false investigations. I was more than under investigation.” Alphonse Capone.

Harris brought up the former president's comments during her appearance on Fox News, commenting: “If you listen to Donald Trump, if you watch any of his rallies, he is the one who tends to demean, belittle and belittle the American people . He's the one talking about an enemy within, an enemy within, talking about the American people and suggesting that he would turn the American military against the American people.

On Thursday, Baier said his intention during the Harris interview was to play both clips of Trump talking about “the enemy within” and responding to criticism of his comments, but that did not happen.

The Fox News host said: “I made a mistake and I want to say that mistake. When I asked for a brief comment, I expected some of the 'enemy within' from Maria Bartiromo's interview to be associated with this.” the article from your town hall, Harris, where you asked the former president about the “enemy of inside' asked.”

During Harris' interview, only Trump's comments in response to the criticism at the town hall were aired, not his original statements to Bartiromo.

Baier added that he wanted to play both clips to show that Fox News had “asked him the question about that sentence and what he wanted to say with it.”
