Blues 1-0 Islanders (Oct. 17, 2024) Game Recap

ST. LOUIS – Joel Hofer made 34 saves and set up Jake Neighbors' goal 2:04 into overtime in the St. Louis Blues' 1-0 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

For Hofer it was the second win of the season in overtime, which ended for the second time in his career for him and the team.

Philip Broberg carried the puck into the New York zone and played a centered pass to the Neighbors for the winning goal.

Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorkin made 29 saves.

Blues defenseman Nick Leddy was sidelined with a lower-body injury, the first game he missed this season. Leddy played in all 82 games last season.

Takeaways

Islanders: Have outscored their opponents in all four games this season.

Blues: Not behind after suffering multiple goal deficits in each of the first four games.

Key moment

Hofer parried Jean-Gabriel Pageau's wrist shot with a stick save 20 seconds before the Neighbors goal. Pavel Buchnevich took control of the puck and passed it back to Hofer so the Blues could make a line change.

Key statistics

Broberg's assist on Neighbors' goal earned him a point in all five games at the start of the season. Broberg is the first defenseman in franchise history to record a point in each of his first five games with the team and only the third Blues defenseman to record a point in the first five games of the season.

Next

Islanders: Host Montreal on Saturday night.

Blues: Host Carolina on Saturday evening.
