TikToker apologizes after tearing down Greek flags she mistook for Israeli flags: 'My mistake'

An anti-Israel TikToker vandalized a flag display at a Greek restaurant in New Jersey, declaring “Free Palestine, b—-!” until workers let them know that the flags were Greek, not Israeli.

A TikTok user named Ambamelia shared a video of the incident, saying she “mistakenly thought the flag for Greek (sic) was for Israel and took down the restaurant's flag, OMG.” While the Greek and the Israeli flags are both blue and white, the former has five stripes and a cross, while the latter has two border stripes and a Star of David.

“What do you see there? You know full well that there is a genocide!” She told a worker at Efi's Gyro as she tore down the flags and market lights. She later added: “There is genocide and I do not stand for Zionism” and asked the workers if they were “proud of your heritage”.

“That’s Greek!” said a worker.

'FEELING THREATENED': JEWISH STUDENTS AT PROTESTS IN NEW YORK SPEAK AGAINST ANTISEMITISM AND REFLECT ON OCT. 7

“Really?” said the TikToker. “Oh, I thought it was Israel… my mistake.”

Restaurant owner Efi Mihalis, who opened the eatery when she was 18 and boasts of being “the friendliest Greek gyros shop in town,” confirmed to the New York Post that the vandalism occurred and that she reported the incident to police .

“It wasn't a skit like some people think,” she told the Post, despite speculation that the incident was too absurd to be real. “This was neither planned nor calculated in any way.” She later added that her co-workers were “astonished” and that the “young woman destroyed my property.”

As October 7 approaches, Jewish students are preparing for protests and vowing to “walk proudly.”
