The Dodgers' Muncy sets a record with 11th straight

NEW YORK – Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy set a Major League Baseball postseason record on Thursday by reaching base for the 11th straight time.

With one of baseball's sharpest eyes and a powerful hit, Muncy parlayed his ability to get on base and score runs into an unlikely, late-blooming career. The 33-year-old's streak began in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series when he hit two home runs and a walk against the New York Mets.

In Game 3, Muncy hit a home run three times, a single and a walk. And in Game 4, he made it three times for the first time – twice against Mets starter Jose Quintana and the last time against reliever Jose Butto.

Muncy broke a record of 10 set by Billy Hatcher of Cincinnati in 1990 and tied in 2007 by David Ortiz of Boston. Both players won the World Series in their respective seasons.

Muncy, who spent most of the postseason at third base but started off against the ailing Freddie Freeman in Game 4, was himself injured for more than half the season. He was still one of Los Angeles' most productive offensive players, hitting .232/.358/.494 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs in 73 games.
