CNN panel explodes over denigration of Black Kamala Harris support

A CNN panel exploded when a pro-Trump guest referenced a historic insult against black supporters of the vice president Kamala Harrissuggesting that they are “domestic African Americans.”

The term “house slave” – often rendered as “house (n-word)” or “house negro” – is used to denigrate black people as conforming, or worse, to white supremacy. Malcolm X In a famous speech in which he also referred to the latter as “Uncle Tom,” he described the differences between the “field negro” and the “house negro.”

In the Wednesday edition of CNN News CentralCo-host Sara Sidner hosted pro-Trump radio host Shelley Wynter and pro-Harris ex-DNC Vice Chairman Michael Blake to discuss the race as Harris woos black voters with a media mini-blitz.

The already contentious part intensified when Wynter portrayed the election as a battle between “house” and “field” – and Blake called him out:

SARA SIDNER: Kamala Harris has done interviews in black media. However, Trump is doing better in polls with both groups compared to previous Republicans. Here's what he said while campaigning in Pennsylvania.

DONALD TRUMP: Any African-American or Hispanic – and you know how good I feel there – who votes for Kamala. You need to get your head checked because they're really screwing you over. They're really messing with you.

SARA SIDNER: And it's Kamala, for the record, but he's vilifying the voters for making a decision he doesn't like. Shelley, what does he achieve with this?

SHELLEY WYNTER: Well, how is it, wait? First, how does he denigrate voters?

SARA SIDNER: He says they're, for lack of a better word, screwed.

SHELLEY WYNTER: They're being taken advantage of. You pay higher prices. They are the working class he is talking about, the working class, the lower middle class. You pay more for food. They pay more for gas and are taken advantage of. (crosstalk)

SARA SIDNER: He also said that her head needed to be examined. The fact that this is the case is not a compliment.

SHELLEY WYNTER: Obama just said the same thing to me. Obama just said the same thing to me.

SARA SIDNER: He didn't use those words.

SHELLEY WYNTER: …He derived them. He gestured to her. He definitely did. He even threatened us with it. We're lucky Michelle isn't here. I mean, come on. Let's not invent anything. Let's be honest here. And let's be really clear about what is being said.

If you are an African American male. Look, let me boil down this election in the African American community to a very simple formula: I'm referring to the great Malcolm Donald Trump.

I'm talking about your men. I'm talking about your men who build, your men who put things together, your men who work with their hands, your men who do things, not the men who push paper, the men who work with are connected to power and want to continue to be connected to the power supply.

SARA SIDNER: Are you specifically denigrating or demeaning African-American men who are employed and in white-collar jobs? Am I hearing that from you or –?

SHELLEY WYNTER: No, I'm not saying that.

MICHAEL BLAKE: Is Shelley the househusband or the fieldman?! I'm just trying to understand that part of it. I'm just trying to understand. I'm just trying to understand.

We have someone crazy. I'm just trying to stick to whatever topic is currently being talked about. Are you – are you the house Negro or the field Negro you are referring to?! So I just want to make sure your question was about denigrating black people. That was literally your question. You have a Republican fool -.

SHELLEY WYNTER: Right. (crosstalk).

MICHAEL BLAKE: Who's talking? You literally just said black men (crosstalk) you just said it's a house versus field election.

This is the nonsense we are hearing right now from those who support Donald Trump. That's actually what you're doing right now.

SHELLEY WYNTER: (PROTESTING).

MICHAEL BLAKE: You just have to be – sure, you have to be, you have to be in your own speech. I'm not sure what kind of radio show you have that you can't listen to yourself. You actually just said that.

SHELLEY WYNTER: For Trump.

MICHAEL BLAKE: Again. Do you understand that this is you? You sound absurd and silly. So let's talk about the core of your question. At its core, the question was about denigration.

SHELLEY WYNTER: I said it.

MICHAEL BLAKE: The core of the question was to denigrate black and Latino communities.

SHELLEY WYNTER: Sir, sir, sir, the su-the substance.

MICHAEL BLAKE: My name is Michael. Name is Michael. My name is Michael. And we thank you for that. So the point here is my question that my brother asked regarding the denigration of black and Latino communities.

SHELLEY WYNTER: All right, my brother. Let me answer the question. The conservative let me answer the question.

(crosstalk)

SARA SIDNER: You've made it clear that you believe.

SHELLEY WYNTER: The point I want to make, ma'am, Sara, the point I want to make is this. The men who get up, the men who get up every day and make things happen with their hands, they build things.

They're plumbers, they're electricians, they work for Amazon. These men who coach football, not because their son or daughter plays, but because they want to keep others off the streets and volunteer their time.

These men, these men want Trump, these men and I use an analogy made famous by the great Malcolm X. So you're saying I'm denigrating anyone? Then you have to assume that he has denigrated someone. So don't throw that word around again.
