“Chris Hayes angry at Fox over 'edited' soundbite in Harris interview”

MSNBC's Chris Hayes criticized Fox News for not showing the full context of Donald Trump's “enemy within us” comments during Vice President Kamala Harris' interview on the network Wednesday.

The anchor of Everything inside opened his show by drawing attention to something Harris himself did in conversation with Fox's Bret Baier. The clip that the right-wing network showed Harris as part of Baier's question showed Trump during his all-female town hall event in Georgia – the one at which Trump bizarrely argued that he was the “father of IVF.”

In the clip that Fox sent directly to Harris during her interview, Trump was not heard talking about former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Rep. Adam Schiff being the “enemy within.” Instead, Fox caused Harris to respond by speaking more mildly about “fake investigations.” The network omitted Trump's statement about the “enemy within.”

Harris didn't fall for it and neither did Hayes.

Hayes pointed to Baier's past as someone who – along with Tucker Carlson – was afraid of losing viewers after Fox's decision department correctly called Arizona for Joe Biden in 2020, saying: “That Bret Baier Kamala Harris every attack in the Trump's playbook, including at one moment when he was caught using an edited soundbite from Trump.”

Hayes had harsh words for Baier.

“Baier just tried to stop Donald Trump from saying something with a soundbite by cutting out the part where he says it!” Hayes noted before showing the full context of Trump’s comments Schiff and the Pelosis mentioned just seconds before the Fox version of the video began.

Hayes seemed taken aback by the idea that Fox had suspected the move wouldn't go unnoticed.

“See what they did there on their own network? We have recording equipment here at 30 Rock and a lot of other places where you can just grab it,” he said matter-of-factly.

Hayes then had more to say about Trump's town hall event, which was attended by many of his supporters – something Fox did not disclose.

Moderator Harris Faulkner “gave Trump the opportunity to back away from his fascist rhetoric,” but Trump didn't take advantage of it, Hayes said.

“He never takes it because he actually believes and wants to do what he says. Then Bret Baier tried again to clean up with a deliberately edited clip for Trump,” he continued. “It’s the same playbook we see over and over again from Fox.”

“I think we all know that Donald Trump has no choice after this but to come to an interview on MSNBC,” Hayes concluded.
