The Social Security Administration will send an additional payment to some benefit recipients in November.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive next month's first payment on Friday, November 1st. However, since the first of the month in December falls on a Sunday, these benefits will arrive on Friday, November 29th, so two checks will arrive in November.

SSI payments for January 2025 will arrive on Tuesday, December 31st due to the New Year's holiday.

About 7.5 million Americans receive SSI benefits each month. Benefits are paid to people aged 65 or over with little or no income, as well as to younger people with a physical or mental disability.

The maximum SSI benefit is $943 per month.

Further changes to social security

With one change, normal Social Security payments will be made regularly for the remainder of the year. Social Security recipients born between the 21st and 31st typically receive their checks on the fourth Wednesday of the month. About 72.5 million beneficiaries — 69 million Social Security recipients, 7.5 million SSI recipients and some who receive both — will receive a 2.5% cost-of-living increase next year. The increase is less than the 3.2% beneficiaries received in 2024, but is close to the historical norm of 2.6% that beneficiaries received over the past 20 years. During this time, the COLAS value has fluctuated from 0% in 2010, 2011 and 2016 to up to 8.7% in 2023.

The 2.5% increase means the average beneficiary, who receives $1,870 per month, will see an increase of about $46.80 next year.
