Cooler weather for a few days

WWSB ABC7 News at 6 p.m

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A chilly start Thursday with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s across the region. A cold front that swept through our area on Wednesday will keep the winds strong throughout the weekend. Watch for winds out of the northeast at 15-20 mph with some stronger gusts. A small boat advisory is in effect for Suncoast waters through Sunday as swells are 3 to 5 feet and conditions are rough on the waters, particularly offshore.

We'll see high pressure build up and we're looking at mostly sunny skies Thursday with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. The average high temperature this time of year is 87 degrees, so it will feel comfortable, especially with the cleanup underway.

Temperatures will gradually warm up through the weekend, but northeasterly winds will continue to be breezy through Sunday. We will see mostly sunny skies through Friday, becoming partly cloudy on Saturday. Humidity will be very low over the next few days and will rise slightly again by Sunday. Rainfall is not expected in the next 5 days.

Everything is quiet for us in the tropics, but we are observing two areas. One is in the western Caribbean, where there is only a 20% chance of it developing in the next seven days. It will likely move across Central America and into the Pacific. The other is in the southern Mid-Atlantic and is moving west at 20 miles per hour. The conditions are not favorable for development in the next few days and will only be marginal thereafter. In fact, some predictive models show that the problem area resolves after 4 or 5 days. Whatever the case, we'll be watching closely.
