India were bowled out by New Zealand for 46 on the second day of the first Test in Bengaluru.

After the entire first day was drenched in rain, India opted to bat on a lively, arid pitch and were sent off for the third-worst total in their Test history.

Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were all out for ducks, with seamers Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke winning with 5-15 and 4-22 respectively.

Rishabh Pant with 20 and Yashasvi Jaiswal with 13 were the only batters to score double figures for India, who are top of the World Test Championship rankings.

It was India's lowest total in a home Test, bettered only by the 36 all-outs against Australia at Adelaide in 2020 and 42 against England at Lord's in 1974.

Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma had moved to 9-0 in the seventh over when Rohit was bowled by Tim Southee while attempting a wild drive.

Kohli didn't score in his nine balls before glove-slipping the 23-year-old O'Rourke, who was playing his fifth Test.

Sarfaraz was caught attempting a counter-attack midway through the game and after a brief rain delay and a 10-over partnership of just 21 runs with Pant, Jaiswal brought O'Rourke to the point.

Rahul was caught on the leg side by O'Rourke in the next over and an over later Jadeja took a catch off a front edge and Ashwin edged to the gully ahead of Henry in successive balls.

Henry's next over brought back the wicket of Pant, who tucked an edge to second slip, and the seamer soon after produced a lovely sweeping catch to catch Jasprit Bumrah's top edge at fine leg.

Henry then took his fourth Test five-wicket haul by catching Kuldeep Yadav at crease.

India's total was the 18th lowest of any team in Tests.
