    The second half, the easier half, of the UTEP football team's schedule begins Wednesday when the Miners face Florida International in a nationally televised game.

    FIU comes into the game with a 2-4 record and has a win against Louisiana Tech and an overtime loss against undefeated Liberty in its two best games. The Miners are still looking for their first win and come into the game with a record of 0:6 and a losing streak of nine games.

    The mystery is who will start UTEP at quarterback since Cade McConnell is questionable with a wrist injury. Opening game starter Skyler Locklear would be poised to get that job back if McConnell can't leave.

    The Miners are pleased with the improvement in their running game, but need to improve their defense against an FIU team that throws the football effectively.

    Florida International at UTEP will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network in Week 8 of the 2024 college football season. Dave Ryan will provide play-by-play and Brock Vereer will provide color commentary from the booth at the Sun Bowl.

    UTEP linebacker Jalen Rayam is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Receiver Jaden Smith is out for the season with a lower-body injury. AJ Odums is out with a “non-football-related upper body injury” that is still being diagnosed. Quarterback Cade McConnell and linebacker Kory Chapman are questionable.
