Mets players make a not-so-subtle gesture to support Luis Severino at the start of Game 3

Luis Severino was on the mound for the New York Mets in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers and had the full support of all his teammates as he hit the rubber.

To show their support for their starter, Mets players in the dugout wore Severino's No. 40 on their faces. Some players, including starters Sean Manaea, Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana, had it written all over their faces. Others, like DH Jesse Winker, chose to have it written across their eyelids.

Mets players wore window dressing in the dugout even when they weren't playing.

Last week, Manaea told reporters that the eye blackening was an idea from Winker, who wanted to give the team another good luck charm. It started during their crucial postseason battle against the Atlanta Braves and quickly turned into a potential postseason talisman. When Severino faced the Dodgers, the players decided to write his No. 40 on his face with blackened eyes in support of the right wing.

Severino threw 95 pitches over 4 2/3 innings in Game 3, giving up two runs (none earned) and striking out three.
