Persistent rain prevented any play on the first day of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Heavy rain in the last 48 hours delayed the toss and the officials decided to have lunch without a ball being bowled.
The entire day's play was abandoned around 2:30 pm IST after covers were briefly removed from the pitch.
To make up for the overs lost on the opening day, officials announced revised times for Day 2, with a 15-minute early start and an addition of 15 minutes to the first and second sessions. Additionally, 98 overs have been allotted for Day 2.
More rain is expected in the next few days, but the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has first class drainage facilities and the game could start within 45 minutes.
If all goes well, the toss is scheduled to take place on Thursday at 8:45 am IST and the game is scheduled to begin at 9:15 am. The first session is scheduled until 11:30 AM, followed by afternoon sessions (12:10 PM to 2:25 PM IST) and evening sessions (2:45 PM to 4:45 PM IST).
India is currently at the top World Test Championship League leaders and will be aiming for a 3-0 win in this series against New Zealand to all but secure a place in the final at Lord's next June.
Wednesday was another frustrating day for New Zealand on their long subcontinental tour. It started with the one-off, washed-out Test against Afghanistan in Greater Noida, followed by a 2-0 defeat in Sri Lanka.
