A The well-marked low pressure area brought heavy rains to Tamil Nadu, particularly in Chennai and surrounding districts, on Tuesday (October 15, 2024). The weather system also caused heavy rains in many districts of the state.

Cholavaram recorded extremely heavy rainfall of 30.2 cm till 6 am on Wednesday (October 16, 2024). Red Hills and Avadi were among the other places that received heavy rainfall of 28 cm and 26 cm respectively till 6 am

The India Meteorological Department's flash flood risk outlook predicts the possibility of moderate flash flood risk in Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Perambalur, Salem, Tiruchi, Tiruvallur and Vellore districts by Thursday morning (October 17, 2024).

Normalcy began to return to rain-hit areas on Wednesday as various rescue and relief operations were underway.
