Celtics reveal details of banner-raising ceremony to begin season

The Boston Celtics don't have to wait much longer to raise a championship banner over the TD Garden Rafters.

Banner No. 18 will hang high above the floor next Tuesday before the Celtics begin the 2024-25 season against the New York Knicks.

The franchise will mark the occasion with a special pregame ceremony and will announce details of what fans can expect on Tuesday. Celtics players and the team's coaching staff will be joined on the court by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Celtics legends. They are expected to help distribute the team's championship rings before players and coaches raise the banner into the sky.

The Celtics announced that the ceremony is expected to begin at 7 p.m. ET and tip-off will occur 30 minutes later.

“The pride and passion that Celtics fans embody gives us a truly unique advantage every time we play at TD Garden,” Celtics team president Rich Gotham said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating and sharing our record-breaking 18th championship on the evening of October 22nd as we begin the search for our next banner.”

The banner-raising caps a months-long celebration of the Celtics' NBA title win over the Dallas Mavericks in June while setting the stage for Boston's repeat bid. The NBA hasn't had a repeat win since the Golden State Warriors won in 2018.

Boston will also get its first chance to compete against the new-look Knicks, who thrived with the offseason moves of Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns.
