Traffic disruptions in Chennai

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rainfall over the next two days, with a distinct low pressure area strengthening into a depression. “Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at one or two places is likely” in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Chennai districts.

Chennai Rains: Government Response

Tamil Nadu declared a holiday for schools, colleges and government offices in affected districts, except for essential services. Civil protection teams are on standby, 219 boats are ready for action.

Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid traveling unless necessary. The Chennai Corporation has set up a 24-hour control room to address rain-related complaints. Power supply was interrupted in flooded areas.
