    A freeze warning is in effect for central Ohio

    Frosty the snowman could come to life early this year.

    Columbus and much of central and western Ohio are under a freeze warning from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday as temperatures plunge into the low 30s.

    Temperatures in Columbus are expected to reach 34 degrees, possibly low enough to allow frost to form on the ground. NWS Wilmington is measuring temperatures five feet above ground level. So even if reported temperatures are above freezing, the ground may actually be colder.

    The chilly specter of frost has been hovering over central Ohio since last Thursday, when NWS Wilmington issued a hazardous weather warning for potential frost through Tuesday. Temperatures in Columbus dropped to 40 degrees Thursday, but no frost was reported, according to NWS Wilmington.

    The first frost in Columbus typically falls on Oct. 27, but there is a 10 percent chance it could fall as early as Oct. 14 in any given year, according to NWS data. The earliest it occurred was September 21st.

    • Thursday: There will be areas of frost before 9am. Otherwise it will be sunny with a high of around 62°C.
    • Thursday evening: There will be patchy frost after 5am. Otherwise it's clear with a low around 35.
    • Friday: There will be patchy frost before 9am. Otherwise it will be sunny with a high of around 67°C.
    • Friday evening: At a low around 39 it will be clear.
    • Saturday: It will be sunny with a high around 72°.
    • Saturday evening: At a low around 41 it will be clear.
    • Sunday: It will be sunny with a high around 74°.
    • Sunday evening: With a low around 45 it will be mostly clear.
    • Monday: It will be sunny with a high around 75°.
