NEW YORK – The Detroit Red Wings look to pick up their second win of the season on Monday night as they prepare for their first road game of the season against the New York Rangers.

The Red Wings got off to a slow start in their home opener, but responded with a solid performance against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, especially between the posts. Cam Talbot was sensational for Detroit, making 42 saves and posting a shutout in a 3-0 win, marking the 32nd goose egg of his career. JT Compher, Andrew Copp and captain Dylan Larkin scored in the win.

While many view Saturday night's performance as a solid defensive effort, the Wings need to get better at limiting their opponents' possession. While Talbot was upside down, Detroit can't allow some of the league's best teams to stay in its zone for long periods of time.

The Rangers are certainly one of those teams. With players like Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, the Blueshirts have one of the most comprehensive offensive arsenals in the NHL. The Rangers began the 2024-25 season with a 6-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins last Wednesday, but fell behind with an overtime loss to the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday night.

These two teams will play again in Detroit on Thursday.
