Dan Campbell actively trolling the Cowboys makes the Week 6 loss even more embarrassing

So that the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to beat the Detroit Lions. Dallas lost the game in the first quarter after Dak Prescott threw an interception in the red zone and the team was already down 7-3. That’s how delicate every possession was for the Cowboys’ offense.

In a game where touchdowns were needed to keep up with the Lions' high-octane offense revolving around Mike Zimmer's injury-depleted defense, field goals and turnovers were a recipe for disaster.

“Disaster” is the best word to describe the Cowboys’ performance. They trailed 27-6 at halftime and allowed Detroit to score on the first possession of the third quarter.

It's obvious that the Lions want to make a statement after last season's controversial loss to Dallas. Head coach Dan Campbell remembers that loss all too well, and he provided an excellent recap of the game as his Lions crushed the Cowboys.

On the Lions' first-ever offensive play, they reported offensive lineman Dan Skipper as an eligible receiver. On Detroit's final possession of the first half, Campbell reported both skipper and tackle Taylor Decker as eligible to play. The game culminated in a touchdown run by David Montgomery – his second of the first half.

In last season's matchup, the Lions scored a potentially game-winning touchdown with 23 seconds left in regulation. Always the aggressor, Campbell went for two and the win, but he added some spice to the game by having Decker deflect the pass in the end zone.

However, the referees threw a flag and claimed Skipper was the only offensive lineman who reported eligible to play. However, replay quickly showed that Skipper, Decker and even left tackle Penei Sewell all signaled before the play that they were eligible to play.

In a league plagued by grotesque refereeing, this was one of the worst decisions in recent NFL history. It was so bad that it was a question of whether Brad Allen would referee in the playoffs.

As much as we hate to give Campbell credit, this was excellent troll work. It's one thing to make a statement on the first play of the game, but Campbell rubbed salt in the Cowboys' wound by reporting Skipper and Decker as eligible to play while they were already leading by three points.

This appearance could hardly be more embarrassing.
