LOS ANGELES – After an underwhelming start, the National League Championship Series continues Monday with Game 2 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets.

Game 1 on Sunday night was anything but a contest, as the NL's No. 1 seed jumped on Mets starter Kodai Senga in the first inning and New York never recovered. The Dodgers' offense scored nine runs at the end of the night, while the pitching staff, led by Jack Flaherty, posted its third straight shutout of the postseason.

Now 1-0, New York will rely on Sean Manaea, who had a brilliant game in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. On the other hand, Los Angeles will come in with a bullpen game started by Ryan Brasier, which was executed perfectly in Game 4 of the NLDS when the team had its back against the wall.

Sean Manaea cruises against the Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sean Manaea has struggled in the past with the Dodgers, but was simply dominant early on.

The Mets left-hander has six strikeouts in three innings with one hit allowed. He struck out Shohei Ohtani twice and struck out the team in the third inning.

The Dodgers escape trouble with the basesstill 6:0

LOS ANGELES – It was a rough start so far for the Dodgers on Monday, but they were able to avoid further damage by emerging unscathed.

Landon Knack loaded the bases but didn't allow anyone to score, getting Francisco Alvarez to fly to center field with two outs. The score remains 6:0. New York enters the end of the third period.

LOS ANGELES – The New York offense entered Game 2 with a bang.

Mark Vientos hit a 3-2 pitch with two outs and the bases loaded to right-center field for a grand slam, giving the Mets a commanding 6-0 lead in the second inning. To start the inning, Tyrone Taylor hit an RBI double for the Mets' second run.

Landon Knack gave up the grand slam after replacing Ryan Brasier to start the second inning.

The Dodgers' record-setting 33-inning scoreless streak ended on the first batter of Game 2, when Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor launched a solo home run to right field off Ryan Brasier.

The Dodgers hadn't given up a run since the second inning of Game 3 of the NLDS against the Padres.

LOS ANGELES – Jack Flaherty grew up in Los Angeles. During his high school years, he was a pitcher at Dodger Stadium and dreamed of one day being a Dodger.

But even in his wildest dreams he could never imagine a night like this.

Flaherty delivered one of the best pitching performances in Dodgers postseason history, allowing just two hits in seven innings, leading the Dodgers to a 9-0 victory over the New York Mets in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night led Dodger Stadium.

“It was,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “just a pitching clinic.”
