Tia Mowry is repurposing ex Cory Hardict's wedding ring two years after their divorce

Turning heartbreak into an heirloom.

Two years after the couple split, Tia Mowry turned her engagement ring and wedding band from ex-husband Cory Hardict into sentimental gifts for her children – son Cree, 13, and daughter Cairo, 6.

The 46-year-old explained her decision on the Oct. 11 episode of her new reality show, “Tia Mowry: My Next Act.”

“I haven't worn it in almost two years now and it just doesn't feel right to sell it,” Mowry said in the episode.

“But I want to turn my wedding ring into something for my children. Pass it on to my children because they have been my greatest gift.”

The “Sister, Sister” alum became visibly emotional after putting the rings back on, explaining that they have been “sitting in a drawer” since her divorce in 2022.

“It was very pretty,” she said through tears as she looked down at the diamond sparkler.

Although Mowry was confident in her decision, it made her “sad” to think that it used to be “a symbol of a marriage and it is no longer.”

“It's hard for me not to think about Cory when I decide to use my wedding ring for another purpose because he's the one who gave me my wedding ring,” she said during a confessional.

The actress admitted that she didn't ask Hardict for his consent, but said he was okay with it because it goes to her children.

However, Mowry said it was something she had to do herself.

During her consultation at a jewelry store, the mother of two explained that she wanted to convert the rings into “some beautiful pieces of jewelry” for her children. She eventually decided to make Cree a necklace and Cairo a bracelet.

“I just think it's so nice to take something that was given out of love and take it and give it to your children. It just makes me feel like my marriage wasn't a waste,” she explained. “I did the right thing.”

The couple was married for 14 years – together for almost 20 years – before pulling the plug in October 2022. The separation was finalized six months later.

Mowry isn't the only star to revamp her marriage signs after a divorce.

In March 2024, Emily Ratajkowski revealed that she had changed her engagement ring into two separate “divorce rings” following her split from Sebastian Bear-McClard.

The model separated the diamonds on her “toi et moi” – or two-stone ring – to “mark the new chapter in (her) life.”

“Just as divorce is the separation of two people, these rings are the separation of two stones. Now she has two rings that she can proudly wear every day and are a reminder of how strong and powerful she is,” Alison Lou founder Alison Chemla told Page Six.

For the first ring she wore on her pinky finger, Ratajkowski set her massive pear-shaped stone on a gold band.

She added a few additional diamonds to her second ball and flanked her original princess-cut stone with two trapezoid-shaped stones.
